I'm not sure if you guys have noticed yet, but I don't take myself to seriously when it comes to the public's perception of what I do and how I behave. I will give you some background though, I'm a husband, a father of four, 3 boys and one beautiful little girl. I am a college student (at times) and I run a company which takes up a great deal of my time for the purpose of promoting people who don't know how to promote themselves at times and others who just want help by someone who will work hard for them.
The war starts in this scenario when you have competition or others doing the job you are doing in the wrong way. What happens when a good kid who makes up the bed and cleans up after themselves comes into a messy house? Answer: the parents start to see that their kids are capable of doing the same activities.
I know your like what is he talking about, but bear with me it's coming lol. I say all of that to say this. When we starting promoting other artist opposed to just JIG we received a lot of love, and then a lot of hate. Why did they hate? They hated because we put a price to what we do, the lowest price, but a price. So vendors and I don't use the word haters, I will say vendors started to feel as if their money was shrinking because the artist had more money to spend. Sounds familiar right almost like the political system, well that's because it's a smaller version of the political system.
We have found ourselves at war against artist who say "I want to spend $500 for a video" the directors who say, "your prices that low come work for me your broke lol" and other media outlets who say, "your not the media" and tell their people not to work with us. I am painting this picture because I want to say some very simple statements to help the artist and businesses who don't work with us understand what we are accomplishing.
We as a unit have single handedly brought some type of unity to the people who work with us. They have a common goal bi-monthly to help promote their fellow artist while promoting themselves at the same time. Video directors have been encouraged to include us in their advertising plans by charging the submission fee to the artist up front. Their video being on the dvd only promotes them to people without the internet and promotes the artist to new fans. Magazines and other media can also be promoted by working the barter system or by paying a submission fee.
See in my eyes the brand is South Carolina and independence. We want our small businesses to promote like the big ones so they can in turn become big businesses. We want our artist to promote like mainstream artist so we can began to earn that revenue as well. We want the directors to get paid for their services fully as well as other publications to do well because the better they do, the better the artist that support them do. So this war is really pointless unless you are fighting against progress.
